The Wedge—where foot waves frequently pound up against the man-made jetty that marks the entrance to Newport Harbor—is without doubt the premier bodysurfing spot in the country. In fact, given how rough the Wedge can be especially after fall or winter rains , you might be better off joining the locals, who come by the thousands to laze on the beach and just watch the action when the surf is up.
Most of the year, the Wedge is even considered too raucous for most traditional surfers. Take Little Corona , for instance, which is south of the harbor entrance. With waves that are short and seldom more than knee-high, this is a great beach for Barneys inexperienced surfers —but the waves are sweet when you catch one just right. During the winter, northwest swells can produce perfect medium-size waves that draw surfers of all abilities.

A Management Plan is supposed to be published within three years, which is a long time for rockhounds to linger in limbo. The BLM’s position since February had been vague, intimating, when asked, that it hoped to implement an interim policy favorable to rockhounds.

When it was time for a much-needed date night out alone , I decided that my sports loving husband deserved a fun and romantic date night out in the city. Moving back and forth the from the East Coast to the West, I have gained such an appreciation for San Diego and its perfect temperatures. Nestled right in the heart of the crown jewel, sits the Omni Hotel San Diego , a luxurious story hotel.

We opted for the spacious, plush and hip Tony Gywn Suite, that wrapped around the hotel providing stellar views of the city. And naturally, our friends had an adjoining room, because… why not?
All fun and games aside, the service at the Omni was superb. From the hour dining, to the in-room fitness kit, they nailed it. And just like my kids, Mom and Dad crave pool time, too. As busy parents of four, the days of Bobby and I taking a leisurely stroll to peruse the streetside stores are long gone. Because the Omni is located in the heart of it all, we took advantage of its location and enjoyed the Gaslamp Quarter. With no destination in mind, we just walked.
